Secluded at the end of a long private drive in gardens and lawns on the edge of the golf-course of the village of Edzell in East Scotland, Dalhousie Lodge is a fine Arts and Crafts dower house built for the for the Earls of Dalhousie at the turn of the 1900's and still in their family.

The gardens are lovely: shrubs, sheltering hedges, borders and lawns for meals al fresco, croquet or putting practice. Inside, the house is reminiscent of Edwardian times: prints and pictures, fine furniture and books, some fabrics new, some faded and worn, giving a genuine sense of an old fashioned Scottish country house.

The Lodge can accommodate up to 12 in 7 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms. Four bedrooms have views over the garden across the golf course and open country to the Grampian Mountains. It is ideal for parties, family reunions and weddings (marquee on the lawn) - large enough for guests to feel relaxed but well-arranged so as to be cosy and easy to manage.

Hidden in the grounds is a hard tennis court, a playhouse and slide for small children. Fishing, shooting and deer-stalking can be arranged on the estate, Edzell golf course has 18 and 9 holes, and the Lodge is within 90 minutes drive of Carnoustie, St Andrews and Gleneagles golf courses.

Brechin Castle and Gardens are usually open to the public from 2nd week of July to 1st week of August with guided tours only. Please check the dates and times.
