Lunga Riding Stables - open all year round
|
The West Highland Estate of Lunga lies just 100 miles from Glasgow and 150 miles from Edinburgh. Its untarred roads and tracks pass through many types of riding country. The stables overlook Scotland's newest sizeable yacht harbour, Craobh Haven, 22 miles south of Oban on the Sound of Jura with views across the Firth of Lorne to the islands of the Inner Hebrides (map at the bottom of the page). There is only a limited public transport service so it is important to arrive and leave by car. Susan has returned to the stables after an absence of almost 20 years and has taken over from Lu and Nigel Boase. Although the name has changed from Ardfern Riding Centre to Lunga Riding Stables, Susan is following many of the stable traditions so old friends will still feel at home when they come. Lu is still in evidence around the stables as a freelance instructor in western riding and natural horsemanship. Susan welcomes adults and children, experienced riders and absolute beginners as well as providing livery for those who want to bring their horse or pony on holiday. |
Appaloosas
The Appaloosas have been bred and trained on the estate by Lu and Nigel. This breed is remarkable for their intelligence, versatility and quiet temperament. They make remarkable 'school-masters' and love to please. Many small children ride them with confidence. At least one qualified leader accompanies the rides. |
Lessons and Riding Out
Previous horse riding experience not necessary. Western riding is an increasingly popular, relaxed way to ride. Horse activities on offer include group, private or lunge lessons, introduction to western riding lessons, natural horsemanship groundwork skills, schooling in the all-weather arena or round pen. We also offer peaceful 1 or 2 hour hacks or 4 hour rides including a picnic or pub lunch stop. You can ride out in English or Western tack. There are half hour lead rein rides for young children. The stables are open all year. May and June are best for sunshine when there's up to 20 hours daylight each day, October for fewer visitors and autumn colours. There are rides available at Christmas and New Year. |
