near Biggar

Scotland

Walston House is set high on the western slopes of the Black Mount with open views across the Medwin Valley and the rolling hills that lie between the Southern Uplands and the Pentland Hills just south of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The house is a traditional stone country Georgian manse built in 1828 for the church across the field in front of the house. Geraldine Gould and Martin Tod have set aside for their bed and breakfast guests two bedrooms, each with a private adjacent bathroom, with the option of a further bedroom if you are a larger party of family or friends who don't mind sharing a bathroom.

It is perfectly placed for exploring both Edinburgh and Glasgow and the romantic rural landscapes of Scottish Borders - wooded valleys, rivers, castles, abbeys and gardens (Ian Hamilton Findlay's Little Sparta garden at Dunsyre is nearby) as well as some of the best hill-walking in Scotland in the Southern Uplands, and mountainbike riding (Glentress near Peebles is about 30 minutes away). It is also easily accessible from the M74 North-South motorway which is about 20 minutes away.

Martin is a keen organic gardener and the sheltered walled garden is beautiful. Besides walking here among the cherry trees, shrubs and borders, you can explore the old stables or walk down to the old church which was built in 1789.
