Adielin Cottage
Glen Clova
Near Kirriemuir
Sleeping 4
According to an old legend, when God finished making the world, He was so pleased with His creation of that He gave the planet a last loving pat before releasing it into space. These celestial finger prints are said to have created the four Angus glens of Isla, Prosen, Esk and Clova and today, when you visit these beautiful, unspoiled valleys it is not too big a stretch of the imagination to believe that you have indeed found a small corner of paradise.
Adielin Cottage lies on the east side of Glen Clova, sheltered by a stand of trees and enjoying superb open views up and down the glen. It is an attractive, traditional detached cottage recently transformed into comfortable holiday accommodation to suit four people. There is a grassy garden all around (furniture) and the peaceful single track road which leads there continues to wind up the glen and back down the other side. This is a beautiful and tranquil setting, safe for children to play and ideal for adults to relax in.
The hills are on your doorstep, with fishing available in the South Esk River or in two nearby lochs (trout). Golfers will find a good course ten minutes away in Kirriemuir (shops, hotels, restaurants) which happens to be the birthplace of J M Barrie, who wrote Peter Pan. The city of Dundee (all facilities, leisure centres etc.) is 40 minutes away and here you can visit Captain Scott's ship, Discovery. Lunan Bay (34m) has a lovely beach and, if you wish to venture over the Tay Bridge at Dundee, you can cross into Fife and visit St Andrews and the other pretty coastal towns.
Should you head off in the opposite direction, the road up nearby Glen Isla leads to the ski-slopes at Glenshee and continues on to Braemar (50m) where you can enjoy serious hill-walking while appreciating the scenic delights of Royal Deeside. Glamis Castle, the family home of the late Queen Mother, is not too far away and all of Highland Perthshire including Pitlochry, Killiecrankie, Blair Atholl and the north as far as Inverness - all are easily reached from Adielin Cottage.
