A real traditional 'seaside cottage' which would once have belonged to a local fisherman, Albert's Cottage stands side on to the seafront andjust a few feet from the beach in the picturesque village of Gardenstown, about 45 miles northwest of Aberdeen.
Inside its thick walls, its beautifully refurbished and snug interior is open plan with a cosy sitting area with wood burner at one end, a dining area in the middle and, beyond, a smart, modern, and well-equipped kitchen. The bathroom too is on this level, and stairs lead to two bright and very attractive bedrooms. Heating is by multi-fuel stove and electricity. There is a small, decked patio area to the rear, and the beach is just a few feet away to the front.
Gardenstown, built on a series of terraces, which swarm up the cliffs behind the cottage, and which are joined by steps and walkways, is a delightful place for a family holiday. The immediate attraction is, of course, the fine beach, just across the little lane beside the cottage, with its extensive sands, ideal for leisurely walks, building sandcastles and games of football, and rocky areas where children can spend happy hours exploring the rock pools. (Parents should be aware that there is an unguarded drop from the seafront to the beach below.)
Also within yards of the cottage are the picturesque harbour with restaurant, an inn, and a few shops, so all is to hand. Further pleasant local walks lead along under the cliffs to equally picturesque Crovie or to the historic church on the top of the hill.
Further afield, this scenic coast is dotted with charming fishing villages, each with its own unique character. The area also offers many fine golf courses, boat trips and an abundance of marine wildlife, from seabird colonies to dolphins, seals and even the occasional Minke whale in the offshore waters. For rainy days, Banff (10m) has supermarkets, an aquarium and Duff House, an outpost of the National Gallery of Scotland.
Inland, the heather hills provide more great walking opportunities - the Speyside Way, for example, or you can join the Whisky Trail, for distillery visits and tastings of some of Scotland's finest malts. For those interested in history, the Castle Trail offers a host of delights within easy distance, such as Findlater Castle, near Cullen, Huntly Castle and Delgatie Castle near Turriff. There is certainly no lack of things to do and see at Albert's Cottage!
Bed linen, towels, and electricity are included. Sorry pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted in the cottage.
