Braehead Cottage is set among the Border hills close to the A7 Carlisle-Edinburgh road, 10 miles north of Langholm and 11 miles south of Hawick. Standing on its own in front of a small clump of trees this traditional shepherd’s cottage enjoys marvellous views up, down and across the valley and makes a perfect retreat for a relaxing family holiday.

Although it may appear traditional on the outside, there is nothing dated about the inside which has been completely renovated by its proud owners. Double-glazed with oil central heating and a wood burning stove in the sitting room, the cottage is cosy and warm as well as smart and comfortable with every modern convenience.

When it comes to activities walkers will be in their element. You can make for the hills straight from the front door, either across to historic Hermitage Castle or to the excellent forest walks with picnic places at Old Northhouse. Those wishing to fish can do so nearby and permits are available from the Hawick Angling Club. Cyclists wishing to bring their own bikes can keep them in the secure storage at the cottage. The nearest dedicated trails are at Craik Forest near Hawick. There is riding 17 miles away at Dryden on the way to Selkirk and 24 miles away, at beautiful St Mary’s Loch, there is sailing and wind surfing.
