Burnside House

Braleckan House,
near Inveraray,
Argyll.

Sleeps 2, 4 and 5

Braleckan is a solid, stone-built Victorian house which stands alone in its own extensive garden, a fenced side of which overlooks the Leacan Burn cascading down the 1500ft-high hills separating Loch Awe from Loch Fyne. Inveraray (shops, restaurants, golf, fishing, pony-trekking, watersports) – home to the castle of the famous Dukes of Argyll – lies only 6 miles north of Braleckan.

Until relatively recently, following a centuries-old custom, cattle were driven over the nearby hills, the Muir of Leckan, towards the markets. Pack-horses transported charcoal along 'the much frequented path' as the road to the neighbouring village of Furnace came to be called.

In those days life around Braleckan must have been far from tranquil but today there is only peace and calm in this beautiful landscape. You waken to the singing of the birds and the gurgling of the burn and enjoy the beauty of walking over the old paths.

Inveraray, a small, pretty town, is centrally located for driving north to Oban and Fort William or east to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, not forgetting the whole of the Mull of Kintyre to the south, or you can revel in the magnificent scenery and history of your immediate surroundings without having to travel very far. There is a shop and a pub in the nearby (2m) village of Furnace.

Braleckan faces south with panoramic views to the Cowal Hills. It is now divided into three comfortable and completely self-contained houses – each with its own entrance, picnic-bench and parking space. No smoking within the house.
