Cairnoch Lodge is quite an individual property in quite a distinctive setting. To get there you travel on one of central Scotland's busy motorways, either Edinburgh-Stirling or Glasgow-Stirling, but as soon as you leave the motorway you enter a completely different world, driving through the hills along winding single track roads. You meet so few cars that you could almost believe you are alone in the world!
The Lodge was formerly the chauffeur's residence for a shooting lodge. It sits on its own within extensive mature gardens which make an ideal playground for children to act out their storybook adventures well away from traffic. The owner's family own a nearby house but it is over the hill and out of sight. All you can see from the cottage is open moors and lots of sheep!
Inside, it is comfortable and unpretentious. Both the main bedroom and the sitting room (with wood burning stove) have floor to ceiling windows which help create a sense of light and space as well as offering splendid views. The kitchen-diner is old-style but very appealing and there is a single bedroom and a room with bunk beds. Cairnoch now boasts new eco-credentials, with electricity supplied by a wind turbine.
As Cairnoch Lodge is surrounded by hills it offers plenty of scope to walkers and cyclists who can head out in almost every direction. Permits are available for fishing in the nearby small lochs and there are forest mountain bike trails. However, you are only 7 miles from Stirling with its historic castle, Wallace Monument and all facilities and from Stirling the motorway connections in all directions are very good: Fife and St Andrews, Edinburgh, Perth and the Highlands beyond, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs – all are accessible in little over an hour.
Heating is by electric heaters and wood-burning stove. Bed linen, towels and electricity are 
included. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
