Cala-na-Sith Cottage
Roybridge
Near Fort William
Sleeping 6 (7)
Cala-na-Sith (the name means 'Peaceful Haven') Cottage is situated back from the road from Laggan to Spean Bridge, facing south, with spectacular views across the valley to the Grey Corries beyond. One of a small group of elegant bungalows, it stands detached in its own spacious, open garden, bordered by a little stream on each side.
A light, bright and sunny house, it has been beautifully finished and equipped by its owners for their own future use. In the meantime, it provides those wishing to holiday in this wonderful area with a splendid opportunity do to so in the most comfortable and cosy surroundings imaginable.
The wee village of Roybridge (shop, hotel) is less than a mile down the road. There is also a railway halt there for the West Highland Line, so the cottage is one of the very few in such a majestic setting which is also accessible by public transport. Bring your bikes if you have them - there are forest trails all round about, while at Aonach Mor (7m), better known generally, perhaps, for its ski-ing, there is the World Championship Downhill Mountain Biking Track. Fort William (all facilities, leisure centre etc.), the gateway to the West Coast, Morven, Moidart and Morar, is 12 miles away, while to the north there is famous Loch Ness and to the east 'Monarch of the Glen' country, where you will easily spot 'Glenbogle' on the shores of Loch Laggan.
Fort William has an 18 hole golf course. There is a good 9-hole course at Spean Bridge (3m) where there is also a superb restaurant at the Station. A great day's walking involves taking the train from Roybridge to the lonely halt at Corrour (there is no road) and then walking out, back to Spean Bridge. Also, be sure not to miss the fascinating geological feature known as The Parallel Roads of Glen Roy; driving up this loveliest of glens will bring you to a viewpoint where you learn that, while apparently on top of a hill, you are in fact at the bottom of an ancient lake!
Oil fired central heating (underfloor downstairs and by radiators upstairs is
