Carpenter's Cottage
near Strathtay

Sleeping 4

Carpenter's Cottage stands in a peaceful setting handily placed for the A9 Perth-Inverness trunk road just a couple of miles to the west. This quiet spot is just off a country lane near Strathtay, 8 miles from Pitlochry in the stunning Perthshire Highlands.

The little terraced cottage is very appealing and, no doubt, was once home to an estate worker, possibly even a carpenter! It has now been subjected to a painstaking and thoughtful refurbishment with the result that its ‘picture-postcard' exterior gives lie to the light, modern, roomy and stylish accommodation inside. At the end of the row of cottages you follow a little path from the off-road parking along the front of the terrace to where Carpenter Cottage looks out on to its own completely enclosed and south-facing grassy garden (furniture, barbecue). Here, in this quiet and sheltered spot children can play in safety while adults unwind in the sun.

The ground floor houses an extensive kitchen diner, a cheerful sitting room with wood burning stove, a bathroom, while upstairs are two double bedrooms.

This is, without doubt, a truly enchanting area, enormously picturesque yet easy to reach. To the north and south are Pitlochry and Dunkeld, both very popular holiday destinations. Pitlochry, in particular, is renowned for its festival theatre. To the west is Aberfeldy (all facilities, distillery, leisure centre) and lovely Loch Tay, well-known for its watersports and for the restored Iron Age Crannog in the loch. Not too far away are Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel, magnificent in their mountain splendour.

Climbers can choose between Ben Vrackie and Schiehallion, both within easy reach of the cottage, or they can head up to the Cairngorms in just over an hour. The village of Grandtully (2m, café, shop) has a reputation as a white water kayaking centre and nearby Strathtay has a golf course. Fishermen don't have far to go as the River Tay is practically on the doorstep while those visitors who are missing city life will find good shops, concerts, restaurants etc. in Perth.

Heating is by electricity (first £15 included!included) and wood burner (some logs included). Bed linen and towels are included!included. One well behaved pet is welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the cottage. Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested. Wi-fi included!included, subject to provider, and there is a telephone in the cottage.
