Clachan Cottage

(south of Edinburgh)
Scotland

Sleeping 6 (7)

Those who like the idea of a holiday "on the farm" will thoroughly enjoy Clachan Cottage, a cosy cottage tucked away at the end of the road in a quiet valley just outside the little village of Stow in the Scottish Borders.

Accessed through the farmyard, the cottage is detached, quite private and completely unoverlooked. There are lovely views from the front down the valley, and a stream gushes past in front of it (care with young children!). It has a sheltered grassed garden, and ample parking to front and side.

Clachan Cottage Inside, the living room is comfortably furnished, with a wood burning stove to supplement the oil central heating. There is a modern kitchen, a downstairs cloakroom and large utility room (ideal for wellies and outdoor gear) and a double bedroom downstairs, with an additional family bedroom, second double bedroom and bathroom with shower on the first floor.

The village (shop, pub.) is a ten minute walk from the cottage down what is essentially a private road. Stow is on the main trunk road to Edinburgh which is only 25 miles away, and a bus goes directly into the city each hour.

To the south and east, Galashiels (all facilities, swimming pool, cinema) is only 7 miles away. Visit nearby Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott, and pretty Melrose with its ruined abbey and famous Greenyards rugby ground. There is a host of golf courses of all levels of difficulty nearby - the nearest, at Torwoodlee, is 6 miles distant. Canoeing, riding, sailing, tennis etc. are all available in the area and there is grand walking in the hills straight from the door. Serious walkers may wish to tackle part of the Southern Upland Way (join it at Galashiels) while St Cuthbert's Way starts at Melrose (11m) and goes all the way to Lindisfarne. On the farm itself, there are many miles of paths for more gentle walks.

Clachan Cottage Alternatively, go over the hill to Lauder, where you can visit Thirlestane Castle, where the famous horse trials are held in August each year, and there is an excellent coffee shop/gallery, pubs and hotels.

Bed linen and towels are included!included. Oil central heating and an initial supply of logs are included!included. Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted within the house.
