Outlook from Dunfuniary Cottage

Dunfuinary Cottage and
The Boathouse,
By Connel
near Oban
West Coast Scotland

Sleeping 2 and 4

In one of the most beautiful areas of the west coast of Scotland, two delightful detached cottages, completely out of sight of each other, share a spectacular view over Loch Etive from their position on the shores of the loch, only 6 miles from Oban and one mile from the village of Connel. The photograph above lets you see the view from Dunfuinary Cottage. Visitors may have trouble leaving this fantastic panorama for even a day but there is much of interest in the surrounding area and certainly too much to do in one week!

Oban is the embarkation point for boat trips to Mull, Staffa, Iona and some of the other smaller islands. At Ardmucknish Bay (4m) near Benderloch there is a beautiful safe beach to enjoy and you will find karting at Benderloch itself. The Sea Life Centre at Barcaldine (5m) is well worth a visit. Climbers and walkers will be interested to learn that Glencoe is less than an hour’s drive away although they will find plenty of opportunities for superb walks closer to home. Riding is available at Lettershuna in Appin where you will also find delicious fare at the famous Aird’s Hotel or the Pierhouse Restaurant.

The village of Connel is a stroll away from the cottages and has restaurants, a pub and a shop. Oban has all facilities.

Accommodation (2 cottages):

Dunfuinary Cottage (sleeps 2)

View from the terrace

The cottage sits on its own and is reached by steps from the A85, so although very near, the road, is not at all visible from the double glazed cottage and thanks to an acoustic trick any noise from traffic passes quite literally overhead. In front of you is a spectacular sight: decking platforms surround three sides of the cottage, high above the water, so it is possible to move around the house taking in the wonderful view as you follow the sun. At the side of the cottage, close to the decking, there is a shaded sunken garden with furniture and a small patio from which a path takes you to your own private area of the shore.

The interior is delightful and of an original design on two levels (3 internal stairs). The open plan basement sitting room has a wood-burning stove, the kitchen is well-fitted and has doors opening to the decking. There is also a double bedroom and a bathroom.

Heating by oil CH, electricity, bed linen and towels are included!included. Sorry, no smokers and pets are not accepted.

The Boathouse

The boathouse is situated right on the shore, completely secluded with woodland all around, a decked terrace and a small beach beside it.

Inside there is a cheerful and welcoming living room complete with wood-burning stove, French doors to the decking area and a first class, well-equipped kitchen-diner with more French doors to the water’s edge. Downstairs there is a double bedroom and shower room while upstairs the twin bedroom and bathroom, both or which have coombed ceilings.

Because of the steps leading down to the cottage it is not suitable for people of limited mobility and its proximity to the water makes it inadvisable for children under 10. At the top of the steps off-road parking is available.

Oil CH, electricity, bed linen and towels are included!included. Sorry, no pets or smoking within the property.
