near Bunessan
Isle of Mull
Scotland
Two cottages, sleeping 4 each
The combination of spectacular scenery, the captivating light on the land, and the feeling of space and tranquillity, creates an unforgettable experience. There are over 300 miles of coastline to explore with fabulous sandy beaches to be found, secluded coves and inlets where you may be quite alone.
Mull is an accessible island, with regular ferries from the mainland at Oban, Lochaline and Morven. Although one of Scotland's most famous and favourite islands, once you leave the ferry at Craignure you will feel you have entered a different world. Heading South to Bunessan you will travel for almost thirty miles along a single track road which will take you through some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring scenery imaginable.
The Eorabus Crofts, (Eorabus means 'homestead on the beach') in the Ross of Mull in the South West corner of the island, stand in 3.5 acres of their own ground in the scattered township of Ardtun close to the village of Bunessan (local groceries, restaurant, post office). They are two semi-detached single story croft houses which have been converted from a former byre, completely refurbished and are beautifully furnished and well equipped. They have wonderful views over the water and are within a five minute stroll of the sea, where you can keep a look out for minke whale. Basking shark and other marine mammals have been spotted by guests in the bay.
A ten minute drive from Eorabus will take you to the little known quiet and beautiful coves of Assapol beach. Drive a little further to Fionnphort, and you will find the foot ferry to Iona, a tiny gem of an island with its unique atmosphere, famous Abbey, and silver white sands.
It is also from here that you can take boat trips – perhaps to Staffa to see the spectacular Fingal's Cave or to the Trishnish isles to visit the puffin colonies. Elsewhere on the island, Duart and Torosay Castles should not be missed, the children will love to visit the site of Balamory (Tobermory to the rest of us). In addition to the whales and dolphins in the surrounding waters, look out too buzzards and eagles in the skies above.
