The Giffen Castle Apartment, is, as the name suggests, part of a small baronial castle (the top floor) hidden away among trees at the end of a half-mile of private driveway in the rolling countryside of North Ayrshire in the south west of Scotland. Rhododendrons, monkey puzzle trees and Scots pine feature prominently in the castle's attractive grounds.
As the castle is located only 30 minutes from Prestwick and Glasgow International Airports, the apartment makes a perfect base for enthusiastic golfers (you can be on the championship courses of Troon and Turnberry in less than an hour). In addition, the apartment is right on the edge of Burns country, ideal for those interested in Scottish heritage and literature. And, finally, it provides a peaceful retreat from which to venture out to explore the many attractions of Glasgow (30 minutes) and Edinburgh (80 minutes) as well as central and south west Scotland in general. An alternative option is to take the regular train service to Glasgow (20 minutes journey) after leaving the car at Dalry (4miles).
The apartment is excellently appointed with all the elegance and character you would expect from such aristocratic accommodation: large unusually-shaped rooms, high ceilings, vast bay windows with working shutters and a surprise walk-in wardrobe in one of the turrets! Because of its high position it is light and sunny, looking down on the gardens and with an entrance from the courtyard (stairs!).
Shops, pubs and restaurant etc are to be found in the nearby towns of Beith (4 miles) and Dalry (4 miles). Largs is an attractive Clyde resort, 18 miles away, where you can enjoy Italian ice-cream in an Art Deco setting at the famous Nardini's. You can catch the ferry from Ardrossan (16 miles) to the beautiful island of Arran or enjoy the sandy beaches near Troon (20 miles). If you head south towards Turnberry, Culzean Castle (40 miles), perched dramatically on the cliff-top, is an interesting place to visit.
Heating by oil-CH and electricity, bed-linen and towels are all 
included. Two small well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
