Gorteneorn View

nr Acharacle

Sleeping 8

Frequent visitors to the west coast of Scotland will be no strangers to the magnificent scenery and harsh beauty of Ardnamurchan, Morar and Moidart. Gorteneorn, a solid traditional farmhouse, stands at the end of about 1.5 miles of private track (suitable for careful drivers in saloon cars) and 4 miles west of Acharacle, just at the intersection of these three areas. The house has a superb position looking down on the peaceful sandy shore of Kentra Bay. It stands alone, through the trees from Gorteneorn Bothy, which is its only neighbour.

Families will really enjoy this idyllic spot far from the noise of traffic. Here, both adults and children can delight in a secluded and tranquil environment. If you bring your own boat or canoe you can spend hours messing about along the shore. Walkers will love exploring the nearby woods and hills and why not devise some games for playing on the lawns at the front of the house – a perfect way to spend a holiday?

The house itself will certainly delight its guests as it is both extremely comfortable and well appointed. The original flagstone floor has been retained in the entrance hall. The sitting room is snug and welcoming with a wood burning stove, and an oil-fired Aga keeps the traditional farmhouse-style kitchen cosy and warm. Also downstairs is a shower room and toilet. There are four bedrooms upstairs, one of them being home to the TV(No Reception)/DVD, and a bathroom.

In Acharacle you will find shops and a hotel. Driving south and west you will reach the point of Ardnamurchan where, in summer, a ferry sails regularly between Kilchoan and Tobermory on Mull. Driving north there are the white sands of Arisaig (27m) and a first-rate golf course at Traigh near Morar. Should you be suffering withdrawal symptoms from lack of shopping Fort William is 45 miles from Acharacle. A special treat for children of all ages is a trip on the Jacobite steam train as it crosses the 'Hogwarts viaduct' (made famous in the Harry Potter films) on its journey between Fort William and Mallaig.

Oil-fired central heating and electricity are included!included, bedlinen may be hired and towels may be hired (overseas guests only). A refundable householder's deposit will be required. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted within the cottage. Please note that the water supply to the house comes from a private source and the downstairs supply is UV filtered. However, it can become discoloured, particularly after rain, and you may prefer to bring bottled water for drinking.
