The Honey House

The Honey House
Near Duns

Sleeping 3 (4)

It is a rare occasion when you find a charming little cottage in an equally attractive setting but this is certainly true of the Honey House, which is located in a quiet cul de sac of traditional, terraced stone cottages beside the river in the Borders hamlet of Longformacus.

The Honey House, Longformacus, Near Duns, Scotland

Inside, the cottage has been refurbished in such a way as to highlight its essential character and, at the same time, make you gasp with delight. First of all, the standard layout has been turned upside-down quite literally as the ground floor houses a double bedroom, a single bedroom with an additional pull-out bed and a shower room. Upstairs there is a very comfortable and well-appointed open plan living area dominated by a set of very large windows which look down on the colourful cottage garden.

Although set deep in the quiet countryside, Longformacus (pronounced Long-for-make-us) is easy to reach and in a good position for visiting this beautiful area. Right on the edge of the Lammermuir hills and bang in the middle of the Southern Upland Way this countryside is perfect for walking out in every direction. Abbey St Bathans (hotel), a scenic hamlet just a few miles away, is on the road to the coast at Cockburnspath and at Coldingham there is a fine sandy beach. Further along the coast there is a spectacular NT seabird reserve on the cliffs at St Abbs.

Historic Berwick-upon-Tweed, which was fiercely fought over by England and Scotland over the centuries, is well worth a visit as is the Northumbrian coast with Lindisfarne and Holy Island, not to mention Bamburgh and Alnwick (castles and gardens). If you opt to turn north you can be on the greens at Luffness or even Muirfield in less than an hour. (There are many other less well-known but equally good courses closer to home). The capital city of Edinburgh can also be reached in about an hour by car.

Heating by night store electricity, bed linen and towels are all included!included. Sorry, no pets or smoking within the cottage.
