Inchrye is a most attractive and typical traditional estate lodge on the shores of Lindores Loch in the north of Fife. Situated between Perth (14m) and St Andrews (17m) it has an ideal location between great shopping and leisure facilities on the one hand and a historic town 'the home of golf' on the other, not to mention opportunities for discovering the wonderful beaches and quaint fishing villages of the Fife coast as well as the central Highlands and even the west coast.
Inside Inchrye tradition and style are happily combined with all modern comforts. In former times the lodge keeper probably looked out for arriving guests from the now cosy hexagonal sitting room with its vaulted ceiling and open fire. A second little room, a 'snug' also with open fire is a good place for reading quietly away from the television. The large, country-style kitchen has an open fire too and is cheerful and well-equipped. These two rooms both enjoy wonderful views out over the loch. Please note that there are three steps leading up to the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom.
Outside, behind and at the side of the house, there is an enclosed courtyard (clothes drier, furniture) and beyond that wide sloping lawns. There is ample private parking both inside and outside the gates. Fife boasts many excellent golf courses as well as St Andrews, several of which are nearby, including the British Open Qualifying course at Ladybank (3m, shops, pub).
Mary Queen of Scots had many associations with this area: her legendary turreted palace at Falkland is only 8 miles from Inchrye. From Kinross, (17m, all facilities) a boat trip across Loch Leven will take you to the ruins of the island castle from which she dramatically escaped. Lorimer's Hill of Tarvit House is close to the busy market town of Cupar (8m, good eating places). Alternatively, take the train to Edinburgh from Cupar or Ladybank (42m by road, 1 hr by train).
Heating is by oil central heating (included) and open fires (basket of logs included, more available for purchase). Electricity is included. Bed-linen and towels are included. Up to two small, well behaved, pets are welcome. No smoking in bedrooms, please.
Parents of very young children are warned that Inchrye is very close to the loch and the minor road (B937 - quiet at night but some traffic by day) and the gardens slope down without a barrier to the courtyard wall behind.
