Katie's Cottage
Near Ardgay
Sutherland

Sleeps 4

Katie's Cottage is a real old Highland croft house (now beautifully refurbished!) on the Amat Estate about 7 miles from Ardgay in Sutherland, standing on a tiny road which ends just a little further up the glen.

The layout of the interior is in true traditional style. Downstairs are a most comfortable sitting room with open fire and, across the hallway, a large dining kitchen equipped with all modern conveniences. There is also a utility room and bathroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms, both with coombed ceilings. The whole cottage has been most lovingly and carefully restored with no sacrifice of its intrinsic charm and character.

In this sublimely peaceful setting, you can escape from your everyday cares. The cottage will particularly appeal to those who enjoy the great outdoors and come either to walk (a road just across the River Carron from the cottage becomes a gated track on which you can walk all the way to Ullapool - a mere 30 miles!), fish, (permits for the Kyle of Sutherland available in Bonar Bridge) or simply relax in lovely and private surroundings.

There is a train halt at Ardgay, and Bonar Bridge, just a further mile from there, has all facilities, including a golf course. Exploring further afield, you can make for the northwest coast, passing the spectacular Falls of Shin on the way, go north to John o'Groats (visit Dunrobin Castle en route) or visit Dornoch with its fabulous beach and Championship golf course, or the beautiful Black Isle. Katie's Cottage is a perfect base for being as idle or energetic as you wish.

Bed linen, towels, and the first £20 of each of electricity and oil-CH are included!included. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement, but owners should be aware that sheep graze in the surrounding fields and are sometimes kept in the nearby fank (fold). Smoking is not permitted in the cottage. Water is from a private source.
