Knapdale reflected in Loch Sween

Knapdale Cottage
near Lochgilphead
Argyll

Sleeps 5

From Lochgilphead on Loch Fyne, if you head along the Crinan Canal and then branch left down the little single track road which leads down the shore of Loch Sween, you will come to Knapdale Cottage, a neat, modern house which stands just across the road from the lochside, with uninterrupted views to the hills on the other side.

The setting is one of perfect peace, with the hill behind and the loch in front. The road comes to an end just a few miles down the road, so there is little passing traffic. The cottage stands in its own extensive garden - it once belonged to a gardening enthusiast who planted many unusual and interesting plants, which are likely to pop up in odd corners and be of interest to those who share her interest.

Knapdale Cottage

Inside, it is bright, spacious and beautifully appointed. The open plan living area has a huge picture window overlooking the loch. There is a new kitchen, one super king-size bedroom with en suite shower, and a further double, a single bedroom and a family bathroom complete the accommodation.

This is a grand area both for activities and for touring. There is walking in the surrounding hills, and fishing in the loch. A walk or a cycle ride along the towpath of the Crinan Canal, where boats can take the short cut from the Firth of Clyde to the Atlantic, is a grand way to spend a day, only improved by the pubs where you can stop for refreshment. For major shopping, Lochgilphead (all facilities, swimming pool) is just a twenty minute drive. Just up the road is historic Kilmartin Glen, with its prehistoric monuments dating from up to 5,000 years ago. The west coast at Oban can be reached in less than two hours, from where you can take ferries to Mull and Iona.

To the south, you can head down the Mull of Kintyre to Campbeltown and Southend. There are good beaches there, and a splendid golf course at Machrihanish. On the way, you will pass the ferry terminals for Islay, Jura and Gigha - always worth consideration for a day out.

Electric heating, bedlinen and towels are all included!included in the rental. Pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted within the cottage. Private water supply. A refundable householder's deposit will be required.
