What do you look for in your ideal holiday accommodation: a wonderful location in lovely surroundings with stunning views of loch and hills – yes; a large and very comfortable detached house with its own quiet and private garden, well equipped and including a full size sauna – yes; loads of family activities with riding in the vicinity, sailing, archery, mountain biking, salmon and trout fishing on site and golf a five minute drive away – yes; a four star restaurant two minutes stroll away – yes; centrally situated for touring in all directions yet with plenty of things to see and do nearby – yes.

If these are on your checklist then Loch Tay House is for you, with its superb setting on Loch Tayside overlooking the marina and only a five minute drive from the delightful Highland Perthshire town of Killin.

The house is smart and modern, built 'upside-down' to take advantage of the fabulous views from its balconies and the glass walled upstairs reception rooms. On the ground floor, there are four bedrooms, three with en suite facilities (the sauna is accessed from the bathroom in the master bedroom and is paid by meter), a utility room and another bathroom. The upper floor houses the enormous sitting room which runs the whole length of the house and has an open fire, the dining room and kitchen, a cosy TV room, and yet another double bedroom with shower.

Built on a plateau looking down on the loch the house has terraced gardens at the front including palm trees, furniture and a summer house. The loch can be reached via a path which runs down through the gardens. The location of the house is ingenious in that the holiday chalets down below it are not at all visible from its windows and gardens.

There is easy access to the marina and its watersports, horse riding is just up the hill and golfers will find a course at Killin ( or at Taymouth Castle in the pretty little village of Kenmore on the far side of the loch.)

Hill walkers will find walks to suit a whole range of fitness and ability from the high summits of Schiehallion, Ben Lawers and Ben Chonzie to quiet woodland ambles. Here, right in the centre of Scotland, you are only a drive away from Loch Earn ( watersports again), Oban and the west coast, Callander and The Trossachs, Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch and Pitlochry with its famous Festival Theatre.

Bed linen, heating and electricity are all included in the rental. Towels may be hired. Sorry, no pets. No smoking. A refundable householder's deposit will be required on arrival.
