View of Macgregor Cottage

Macgregor Cottage is one of a cluster of whitewashed houses at Ord on the shores of Loch Eishort in the south western corner of Skye. Coming from the mainland you have a choice between the Mallaig (at the very end of 'The Road to the Isles') to Armadale 20 minute ferry crossing or the Skye Bridge and then a single-track road with passing places. Either way is very easy. This particular part of the island is known as the Garden of Skye and offers magnificent landscapes, spectacular views, wildlife galore and last, but not least, the wonderful sunsets of the west coast.

Everywhere you look in this beautiful area you will see sheep grazing on the grassy/rocky hillocks. Inside, the cottage has a distinctly Scandinavian feel with its wood-lined walls, open-plan living area and huge windows. It is very comfortably furnished although the bedrooms are quite compact. Thanks to good insulation, heating and triple-glazing the cottage makes a very cosy home at any time of the year. Water is from a private source which is UV filtered.

There is garden furniture outside and a fine sandy beach only a couple of minutes walk from the cottage. The views from the beach across the loch to the always spectacular Cuillin Mountains are among the best on the whole island. There is even a jetty for launching boats (at your own risk) and you can always try to spot the seals and otters who often visit here. Macgregor Cottage makes a perfect base for energetic family holidays or for relaxing and enjoying the peaceful environment.

The Eilean Iarmain Hotel at Isle Ornsay isa very well-known hotel which also serves excellent bar meals. Ardvasar also has a hotel plus a small shop. There is a supermarket and fuel at Broadford, about 15 miles away.

Heating is by electric night-store heaters (£25 electricity included!included). Bed-linen is included!included and towels are available for hire to overseas guests only. Dogs are welcome but under very strict control but sorry, no cats. No smoking is allowed within the cottage. The cottage has a payphone.
