Those looking for the ultimate Scottish escape will surely find it in McLean House at Inverskilavulin, a magnificent Highland Glen about 7 miles from Fort William where breath-taking scenery combines with sheer luxury to create a quite unforgettable holiday experience.

McLean House and its semi-detached mirror image, Campbell House, may be hired separately or together to take a total of 12 guests. Each is, however, fully self-contained, standing amid extensive 5 hectare private grounds, with the owner's house further up the hill as their only other neighbour.

The views from the house are truly stunning, encompassing all the surrounding hills including Aonach Mor and Ben Nevis itself. There is also plenty of parking beside the house.

The glorious surroundings are matched only by the accommodation which McLean House offers. Downstairs there is a bright and spacious sitting room with open fire, and where a beautiful polished wooden floor adds a further testament to the quality of the house. There is a lovely dining area, superb kitchen, sumptuous shower room and a utility room. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, a twin bedroom, all with wonderful views and a further bathroom with separate large walk-in shower.

The Fort William area is, rightly, one of Scotland's most popular holiday destinations for all seasons of the year. Alongside Ben Nevis is Aonach Mor, which offers great skiing in winter and world class mountain biking at other seasons. This is to say nothing of the walking, climbing, fishing and the wonderful wildlife - look out for deer, pine martens, buzzards and eagles. As you come into Banavie there is Neptune's Staircase, a spectacular series of locks where the Caledonian Canal feeds into Loch Linnhe, and where there are also some delightful walks along the towpath.

You will never be lost for something to do but where to start? The Road to the Isles is surely a must, or take the Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig - if you do you will have the experience of crossing the 'Hogwarts Viaduct' at Glenfinnan, which is also where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard to launch the '45 rebellion.

To the south you have Glencoe, with more skiing and climbing opportunities, sandy beaches north of Oban, and island hopping from Oban itself, whilst to the North East lies Loch Ness (stop off at the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge on the way), the Great Glen, and Inverness itself. Plus so much more.

Bed linen, towels, oil-CH and electricity are all included in the rental. Pets welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the property.
