Driving down one of the little lanes through the lovely Borders countryside near Kelso, you see across the fields a real, traditional, chocolate box cottage standing quite alone and snuggling in to the trees behind it. That's Parkend Cottage. With glorious views away to the Cheviots at the front and the Eildon Hills to the side, and reached by a good private track, it is surrounded by its own enclosed and south-facing gardens (furniture) ideal for children and pets.

Inside, it offers accommodation which is both comfortable and amazingly spacious. The large living room is bright and airy with several windows and an open fire for added cosiness. There is a very large farmhouse kitchen with Aga and additional electric rings, which has doors to the east facing terrace (just right for lazy breakfasts al fresco) and an additional utility room and cloakroom. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The area is just right for those looking for a peaceful holiday in lovely surroundings, yet prefer not to be too remote. Kelso, at the confluence of the Tweed and the Teviot, is a very pretty riverside town with a cobbled square, good eating places and lots of interesting small shops and is within a few minutes' drive of the cottage. It also boasts a racecourse, swimming pool, icerink and golf course, as well as Floors Castle, the home of the Dukes of Roxburghe. The prestigious Roxburghe golf course is just outside the town. Fishermen can choose between the Tweed and many less expensive rivers and lochans in the area.

To the west , there is excellent walking in the hills of the central Borders as well as numerous stately homes, castles and ruined abbeys to visit. There is riding close by at Nenthorn, while the sandy beaches of the Berwickshire and Northumbrian coast can be reached within the hour. Nor would any trip be complete without a visit to Edinburgh, Scotland's elegant capital city, and buses run regularly from Kelso if you prefer to leave the car behind.

Bed linen and towels and the first £30 each of electricity and oil CH are included!included in the rental. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the cottage. A refundable householder's deposit will be required. Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider.
