Dumfriesshire
Sleeps 4(5)
Plantation Foot is a traditional, comfortable Scottish stone cottage in the hamlet of Newton Whamfray, near the pretty town of Moffat (7m, all facilities) in the Scottish Borders. It has the further advantage of being very easily reached from the M74 (1m), which makes it an ideal touring centre.
Its situation is a very peaceful one with only one or two neighbours near. It stands in its own large and enclosed garden, with plenty of room for off road parking, a gravel and patio area (furniture, barbecue) and, beyond, a further enclosed grassed area prticularly suitable for children and pets. Inside, it is simply but comfortably furnished in a style which perfectly complements its ambience, with the choice of an open fire in the living room or an electric alternative for instant heat. The cottage has a loyal following of holiday makers, who return again and again.
Fishermen will be interested to know that it is near the River Annan, famed for its salmon, trout and seatrout (fishing permits can be obtained). It is also 7 miles from Lockerbie, and 20 from Dumfries, so that you can easily explore all of the beautiful Solway Coast. The superb countryside roundabout - the Lowther Hills, Eskdalemuir, St Mary's Loch, all offer a paradise for walkers, bird-watchers, and fishermen, while mountain bikers will find themselves within a short distance of the Seven Stanes Trails in the Forests of Castle O'er and Ae.
Heating is by open-fire (coal
