The view from Rhugrabh

Rhugrabh,
Strachur, Argyll

Sleeps 4+1

Rhugrabh has a wonderful location in the village of Strachur on the eastern shore of Loch Fyne about 18 miles north of Dunoon (all facilities) and 20 miles south (round the head of Loch Fyne) from Inveraray which has shops, restaurants, golf and The Duke of Argyll's Inveraray Castle.

Rhugrabh House

This is a solid stone, well-appointed, secondary-glazed and comfortable Victorian villa standing in its own enormous garden which has a trout stream on one side and it is within walking distance of the well-known Creggans Inn (restaurant/bar meals) once belonging to Lady Maclean of 'Cook book' fame, as well as a village shop/ PO, café and petrol station. Just a little further down towards Dunoon there are two more pubs which also serve excellent meals.

The house is full of charm and character, with a lovely, bright and comfortable conservatory which adjoins the sitting room and which affords fine views of both the loch and the garden. There is a bathroom and separate shower room downstairs, and an additional en suite WC and basin in the twin bedroom. And it would be a cold-hearted tenant indeed who would not go 'Aaaah' on discovering the dear little box 'bedroom' at the top of the stairs!

Conservatory view

This house has a stunning south-westerly view (photo at top) right across Loch Fyne to the high hills of The Mull of Kintyre and the distant Western Isles - its name 'Rhugrabh' ('red rock' in Gaelic) is suggested by these hills which are bathed deep red in the sunset's afterglow - and there is excellent walking in every directions, with enjoyable touring to such places as Oban, Mull and Iona, Glencoe, Fort William, Loch Awe and Loch Lomond etc. The owners can also offer, in season, Red/Roe deer stalking and shooting on their 4,000-acre Estate and a choice of loch, river or sea fishing.

Garden enthusiasts have the choice of Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens at nearby Cairndow, Crarae Gardens, some 10 miles south of Inveraray, or Benmore Botanical Gardens on the road to Dunoon, While there, a walk through the magical Puck's Glen just across the road is not to be missed.

Heating is by oil-CH and open fire. Bed-linen and towels are included!included. Pets are welcome. No smoking please within the house. A refundable damage deposit is requested on arrival.
