Sadler's Cottage
Edinburgh
Scotland
Sleeping 4
Every year tourists in their thousands flock to Edinburgh, the beautiful and historic capital city of Scotland. They come to see the sights, the Castle, perched on its rock, the Palace of Holyrood, the Scott monument, the dramatic architecture of the new Scottish Parliament, the galleries, parks and gardens of this most elegant and cosmopolitan of cities.
But cities can also be tiring, and at the end of a long day pounding the pavements, most visitors would give a great deal to relax in the comfort of their own luxurious 'home for a week', close to the city centre, but secluded and peaceful, with a walled garden to boot.
This is precisely what is on offer at Sadler's Cottage. The lower part of a charming and gracious sandstone house, it stands in a quiet cul de sac, at the end of which buses ply up and down to the city centre. (Edinburgh is not the most car-friendly of places, and a huge added bonus of Sadler's Cottage is that it has off-road parking for two cars. It also offers secure storage for cycles or a pram.) The very private garden has furniture and a barbecue, an ideal spot to put your feet up and relax with an evening drink.
Inside, there is a gracious sittingroom/dining room, high ceilinged and beautifully furnished, with a electric 'wood-burning' stove, which combines maximum convenience with an ultra-cosy effect. Its heat is efficiently supplemented by gas central heating. The kitchen is extremely well appointed, there is a king-size double bedroom with en suite shower, a twin bedroom and a further bathroom.
Nor do you have to get the car out if you feel like a break from all the urban hustle and bustle. You can walk along the nearby canal towpath all the way to Ratho if you wish (or catch a canal taxi!) There are swans, ducks and moorhens aplenty along this route. Follow the Water of Leith Walkway up to the Pentland Hills, or walk up Craiglockhart Hill. There are cycle ways too, which you can follow to Leith or, in the other direction and for the really energetic, right out to the Falkirk Wheel.
There are four or five golf courses within 2 miles of the cottage. You will find, too, within a 10 minute walk , the excellent shops and restaurants which one would expect to find in such a city as Edinburgh, and, of course, you have the choice of all the theatres, concerts or night life you can handle.
Heating is by gas central heating (
included) and electric stove. Electricity, bed linen and towels are all
included. Sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
