The Salmon House
Gardenstown
Banff

Sleeps 6(7)

This is a quite unique Grade 2 listed building, standing as it does right on the picturesque harbourside in the not less picturesque village of Gardenstown (pub, restaurant), near Banff on Scotland's sunny north-east coast.

Once the village's fishery building, the upper two levels have now been spectacularly converted to make a most comfortable and rather spectacular holiday home. (Below, out of sight and accessed from the other side of the building, is a small Fisheries Museum open on summer weekends and occasionally at other times.)

The house is on the rake of the hill and is accessed from the road down to the harbour. It's most impressive feature is without doubt the huge living area, with beams, stripped wood floor and stone fireplace with a woodburner which fairly pumps out the warmth. On this floor too are the kitchen and a small bedroom with en suite WC. A spiral staircase leads up to two further double bedrooms, with coombed ceilings and each with their own facilities.

You could sit for hours watching the seascape and the boats in the peaceful harbour, but there is a superb sandy beach just a short stroll beyond, or, in the other direction, you could walk under the cliffs along to Crovie another exquisite little village huddled at the base of the cliff.

Further afield, the coastline abounds in quaint fishing villages, each with its own character. You can take boat trips to view the teeming marine wildlife of the area, or inland, explore the Speyside Way, the Whisky Trail or golf on numerous excellent courses. Banff (10m) has all facilities.

Heating by electricity (included!included). Bed linen and towels included!included. Sorry, no pets or smoking and the house is not suitable for very young children.
