Scarista Beach House
Isle of Harris
Outer Hebrides
Scotland
Sleeping 6
The village of Scarista is situated on the west coast of the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. The uninhabited island of Taransay (star of the TV series 'Castaway') is all that lies between Scarista and the eastern seaboard of the USA, two thousand miles away! This coastline is one of breathtaking beauty as the sea meets the land creating a string of fantastic golden beaches, many of which are deserted. One of these beaches, the largest and arguably the most beautiful, stretches out in front of Scarista Beach House, only 100 yards away on the other side of a quiet road, sand dunes and machair.
The house is a traditional Highland cottage set, typically, in a grass garden enclosed by a fence and 'dry stane dyke'. The inside, however, has been entirely refurbished although a lot of the original character has been retained in, for example, the pine panelled walls. The cosy sitting room has an open fire (plus an additional sofa bed if required) and there are three bedrooms, a king size, a double and a twin respectively. The bedrooms still have original fireplaces (decoration only) but there is now a modern electric central heating system.

Scarista Beach House offers that rarest of combinations – a tranquil setting but with ample facilities and interesting places to visit nearby. A short stroll will bring you to the award winning Scarista House restaurant and in the village Atlantic Edge will deliver gourmet dinners to your door. The village also boasts a post office and art gallery. There are more shops, restaurants and pubs in Leverburgh (6m) and Tarbert(18m) as well as ferry connections to the Isle of Skye and South Uist.
If you can drag yourself away from the outstanding views and the comfort of your own vicinity there are plenty of opportunities for exercise and touring. The island's golf course is only a 5 minute walk away. You can hire bicycles locally, there are boat trips to Taransay and cruises around the immediate coastline. Seallam Visitor Centre, nearby, has a shop, tearoom and is also home to the Western Isles genealogy research centre, while Rodel, just beyond Leverburgh, has a first class restaurant.
Without a doubt you will enjoy a memorable holiday in the unique setting of Scarista Beach House.
