St James

St James
Innerleithen
Peebles-shire

Sleeping 2

In the Tweed Valley, just 6 miles from the pretty Borders town of Peebles (all facilities) lies the little village of Innerleithen (shops, pubs, hotel). It is here you will find St James, a stunning conversion of an old, stone-built school hall.

Retaining its original vaulted ceiling and arched, leaded windows, it is now a light, airy and extremely spacious holiday home. The open-plan living area has polished wood floors, a living flame gas fire, and an island kitchen area which has been fitted and equipped to an extremely high standard. A spiral staircase leads up to the magnificent galleried double bedroom. Outside, there is a small, enclosed, grassed garden with decking area.

This is an excellent area for sportsmen. There is good walking round about (the Southern Upland way runs close by), there is a golf course on the edge of the village and several more within a 10 miles radius, and riding at Peebles, where there is also a swimming pool and leisure centre. Also on the edge of the village is a mountain biking centre, with forest trails. The nearby stretch of the Tweed is one of the best parts of the river for canoeing, and of course the river is a fisherman's paradise.

Within a couple of miles of the village is Traquair House, reputedly the oldest continuously inhabited house in Scotland, where the Bear Gates will remain closed until a Stuart king once more ascends the throne. Just beyond Peebles is the imposing stronghold of Neidpath Castle, and in fact the area is full of interesting stately homes and castles to visit. Garden enthusiasts too will find much to interest them at Dawyck and Kailzie.

Edinburgh is just over an hour's drive away (the 'short cut' through the lonely hills to Heriot is scenically well worth taking.)

Heating is by gas central heating and living flame fire (included!included). £15 of electricity is included!included. Bed linen and towels are included!included. Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
