The Ardnamurchan peninsula which lies south-west of Fort William is a really captivating place. Warmed by the Gulf Stream and protected by the islands of the Inner Hebrides a dramatic landscape stretches westwards from Salen on Loch Sunart to the most westerly point on mainland Scotland at the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse.

The accommodation here is in the self-contained upper half of Tarbert Cottage in the little village of Salen (yachting centre, pub, hotel) which sits at the head of lovely Glen Borrodale, 2 miles away from Acharacle (shops, hotel). Tarbert Cottage stands detached in a charming garden looking out over Loch Sunart towards the Morvern Hills. The cottage has its own private entrance and the owners live in the lower part. The very comfortable accommodation is beautifully furbished and includes a very good dining kitchen and two good-sized bedrooms. The delightful sitting room is a special feature as its coombed ceilings and huge Velux windows provide wonderful light as well as superb views of the loch.

With the cottage as your base you can explore west to Ardnamurchan Point and the famous white sands of Sanna or visit the Natural History Centre or the Illegal Museum of Poaching and Distilling. At Kilmory there are silver sands made smooth by the clear sea waters and at Kentra there are The Singing Sands. You can fish on Loch Shiel or Loch Sunart.

Further afield you can take the little car-ferry from Kilchoan (18m) across to Tobermory on Mull (35 mins.) and visit Iona, or maybe take a trip to Staffa with its famous Fingal's Cave and puffin colonies. Or, going north via the Road to the Isles and Mallaig, you can take a ferry over the sea to Skye.

Heating is by electric CH (included), and convector heaters. Bed-linen and towels are included. Sorry, no pets. Smoking is not allowed within the house.
