Thornton Mill Cottage,
Near Dunbar,
East Lothian

Sleeps 6

Thornton Mill Cottage Thornton Mill Cottage is a small elegant stone house dating from about 1850 and standing within the courtyard of the 12th century Thornton Mill, which is hidden in the Lammermuir Hills 6 miles south of Dunbar (hotels, restaurants, shops, golf-courses, beaches) and 22 miles north of Berwick-on-Tweed.

The setting of the cottage The cottage is very comfortably furnished and double-glazed, and has an excellent tastefully-modernised interior within its original walls, with a second bathroom added for good measure. It has its own small raised garden (furniture, barbecue) at its side, and the old mill wheel (quiescent now) and the Mill Race can still be seen in the grounds above the Thornton Burn which streams through this private and tiny suntrap of a valley after emerging from a rocky gorge way up in the hills. Edinburgh is a 45-minute drive - most visitors commute by train (20 minutes) from Dunbar where there is ample parking - and all the glorious Border Country of both Scotland and England is readily accessible, with sandy beaches, historic castles and stately homes aplenty. The East Lothian golf courses, including famous Muirfield, are just a short drive away.

Heating is by oil-fired central heating, and open fire(fuel included!included). Bed-linen and towels are included!included. Pets are welcome.
