Tides Reach is situated on Isle Ornsay Bay on Skye, about 20 minutes drive from the Skye Bridge and 15 minutes north of the car-ferry at Armadale. The house stands about 140 yards off the Camas Croise coast road at the end of a short steep private driveway which leads first to parking for two cars then to the cottage along an easy footpath for about 100 yards.
The seclusion of the cottage, its position a few feet from the water's edge and the fact that you cannot drive your car to the door makes it unsuitable for the infirm or very elderly. However, its secluded situation beside the rocky shore will most certainly appeal to those seeking peace, as your only visitors in the early morning and evening are likely to be seals, deer and even the elusive otter.
This converted crofter's cottage is within walking distance of the welcoming Eilean Iarmain Hotel (famous for its restaurant/bar meals and its frequently-held Thursday evening ceilidhs). The cottage enjoys wonderful views across the bay to Isle Ornsay village and The Sound of Sleat both from its delightful garden (furniture) and its spacious conservatory/sitting room, sharing these views with the oyster-catchers and herons which are often to be seen in the bay. This whole region of Sleat is known as 'The Garden of Skye' and is perfect for walking trips or touring by bike or car. Boat trips are also possible from Armadale out to the smaller islands or take the ferry across to Mallaig at the end of the Road to the Isles. Broadford (9m) is your closest town of any size with shops, restaurants and hotels.
Heating is by wood burning stove and oil central heating (
included to the value of £20.00, any excess to be paid to the Caretaker on departure from the property). Bed-linen is included, and towels are available to hire. Pets are welcome by arrangement. There is no TV reception.
