Isle of Skye
Scotland

Sleeping 7

Tigh Gorm is to be found in the quiet crofting village of Lower Breakish at the south east end of the magnificent Isle of Skye. Only 5 miles from the Skye Bridge, the property is conveniently situated for exploring both the island itself, as well as the mainland beyond (Inverness 2 hours drive).

This generous modern detached dwelling with its large enclosed garden provides the best of both worlds, being within a typically scattered village but on a large plot, so the neighbours aren't too close! Its comfortable and practical interior provides ample communal space as well as 4 large bedrooms, one with king-size bed and en-suite, one with double bed, one with twin beds and one with a single. The newly renovated kitchen with its large range cooker will be a mecca for all the family - just as well its open plan styling provides space for dining and lounging as well as cooking!

Tigh Gorm's sizable sitting room offers glorious sweeping views across to the Ardnish peninsula, on to the Inner Sound and the islands of Raasay, Scalpay and Pabay, and far in the distance Applecross in Wester Ross, on the mainland.

After a day of enjoying the island, the bright family bathroom gives you the option of soaking in a soothing corner bath or relaxing in the separate shower cubicle. With the living areas, bedrooms and the bathroom all on the ground floor level, even those with more limited mobility won't feel at all excluded from enjoying the property.

Lower Breakish sits close to the water's edge, on the periphery of a tidal estuary, full of an exciting assortment of wildlife including numerous types of seabirds. The area is an excellent base for outdoor pursuits including climbing, mountain biking, fishing and horse riding. The Island's tranquil and atmospheric landscape presents the perfect setting for an abundance of inland and costal walks. Nearby is the beautiful, unspoilt Ashaig beach where you may see seals basking as you stroll along the shore. Those willing to head off the beaten track may also be fortunate enough to find the hidden bay which lies not far from the village were giant fossils can be found in the ancient stone.

Two miles north is the market town of Broadford, the second largest settlement on Skye (supermarket, shops, pubs and restaurants) hosting two piers both with stunning views and the Inn which reportedly first shared the liqueur Dambuie with the public in the 1870s. The town is also home to the Skye Serpentarium which cares for abandoned and rescued reptiles and amphibians. These fascinating creatures can be admired safely through glass but for the courageous there are frequent snake handling sessions!

This exquisite island has so much to offer visitors as well as its picturesque scenery. Dunvegan Castle, believed to be the oldest continuously inhabited family home in Scotland, and its attractive gardens wait to be explored. Or why not taste the renowned local tipple at Talisker Distillery? You can pander to your inner child at Glendale Toy Museum or expand your historical knowledge and learn about the island's Gaelic roots in the award winning Aros Centre at Portree.

So there's lots to do nearby, and the house is also a convenient base from which you can tour the wider area. With its relaxed layout and comfortable atmosphere, no matter how you chose to use your time, Tigh Gorm will make it easy!
