West Cottage,
near Lilliesleaf,
Roxburghshire
Sleeps 3
West Cottage is a cosy, delightful 'roses around the door' modernised old stone cottage in a tiny hamlet of houses hidden away between the villages of Lilliesleaf and Midlem, near to Melrose, in the lovely Scottish Border Country.
40 easy miles south of Edinburgh and not far from either Hawick, Selkirk or Jedburgh, it sits in its own large grass garden (with furniture) at the side of a private and quiet farm road, offering visitors the chance to relax, bird-watch, walk, or tour by car through stunning uncrowded countryside with pubs and hotels nearby.
There is lots to see and do in the area, many stately homes, castles and ruined abbeys to visit, and sporting opportunities of all kinds. The area boasts many good, quiet and inexpensive golf courses, you can fish in the local rivers or stocked trout lochs; it is prime riding country and the quiet roads also lend themselves well to seeing the country by cycle. More ambitious peddlers will enjoy the Forest trails round Innerleithen (19m) or Craik Forest.
Inside, the cottage is simply but comfortably furnished. The spacious dining kitchen has good modern appliances and there is an open fire in the snug sitting room. The bedrooms, though not large, have plenty of storage space. (You could easily imagine Goldilocks taking up residence in the second single room!)
Heating is by electricity, convector heaters and open-fire (starter pack
included). Bed-linen and towels can be hired. Pets are welcome.
