White Cottage is an old, traditional, stone built cottage, completely modernised inside, extended at the back but retaining its original typical frontage. It sits on a quiet back road about 6 miles south of Peebles (hotels/shops/most facilities) and only 100 yards from the river Tweed (fishing permits available). It was once supposedly home to the ford-keeper in the days when cattle were driven across the Tweed to Peebles and on to Edinburgh, today a 40-minute drive away. To the front, there is a large enclosed grass garden (furniture, BBQ).

Comfortable and cosy, the cottage stands in its own grassy garden (garden furniture) in a hugely desirable setting with Cardrona Forest as backdrop and a view to the front through trees and over the river to the Tweed valley and distant hills. About half a mile away is the new Cardrona golf course which welcomes visitors. White Cottage is also very well placed for the superb mountain-biking trails at Glentress and Innerleithen (secure storage available for bikes), for walking in the local hills and forests, for canoeing or fishing in the Tweed and just for relaxing in lovely surroundings.

Nearby is Traquair House, claimed to be the oldest continuously inhabited house in Scotland, well worth a visit, which also has its own micro-brewery and hosts many interesting events throughout the year.

White Cottage is perfectly placed for exploring all the rolling Border countryside, much of Dumfries-shire and even, via the Edinburgh ring road, some of Perthshire and the west of Scotland.
