If you have a romantic turn of mind you will love staying here. Few apartments are so close to the inscrutable presence of the massive ancient rock and castle which dominates the centre of Edinburgh. Its sheer impenetrable walls and dark windows tantalise the imagination into recalling the men and women who lived behind them and played their fateful parts in Scotland's history, influencing for bad or good the lives of the people beneath.

The apartment is on two floors in a quiet mews house a few minutes' walk from Princes Street and even less to the picturesque and historic open square with shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants known as Grassmarket.

Its very central; The Usher Concert Hall, The Traverse and Royal Lyceum Theatres are just around a couple of corners, and from here you can walk to just about everything of interest in Edinburgh. There's an especially interesting walk through the Grassmarket up old Victoria Street past fascinating shops to the Royal Mile and the entrance to the Castle itself.

The apartment has a living room, kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom, and can accommodate up to 4 if the sofa bed in the living room is used.

Behind the curtain is the front door and the garden of trees and shrubs shared with the surrounding flats.

The railings are at the top of the spiral stairs (right) which goes down to the bedroom and bathroom.

The sitting area has an armchair and sofa (converts to a bed for extra guests) and television with DVD player (there's also a small library of DVDs and books), and views of the castle from the window.

The apartment has central heating.
