The Royal Mile
Location of the apartment

103 was built by Spence, Glover and Ferguson in 1966. (Sir Basil Spence was the architect of Coventry Cathedral.)

Number 6 is a modern self-catering rental apartment in one of the oldest parts of Edinburgh, just a hundred or so yards up the Royal Mile from the Palace of Holyrood House and the new Scottish Parliament.

From the front windows you can glimpse the wilds of Salisbury Crags, and at the back the windows (and the balcony) look out to an uninterrupted view of Calton Hill: a panorama of early 1800s classical architecture with Edinburgh's unfinished Parthenon on the sky-line - a view of Edinburgh, you might say, as Athens of the North.

The Royal Mile runs from Holyrood Palace to Edinburgh Castle. It's less than a mile walk up to the castle (downhill on the way back...), and you'll pass lots of cafés, restaurants and shops including Caddonheads, the best malt whisky shop in Edinburgh (cask strength, non-chillfiltered, etc.)
