Even though it's only 10 or 15 minutes by (very regular) bus to Princes Street, Albert Terrace is quiet and secluded, almost with the atmosphere of a village lane. Vanessa and Fouad Habib live at Number 12a, and welcome guests to stay for bed and breakfast in the private and self-contained Summer House in their garden. The photograph (left) shows the path leading to it. Fouad is a researcher at the University and Vanessa is a writer on Scottish textiles and can happily advise where to go and what to see in Edinburgh. Around about there are a good many cafés and restaurants, and Edinburgh's best cinema for independent films and two theatres are within 5 minute's walk. Accommodation:On the ground floor there's a shower-room and an oak stairs which leads up to the bed room/sitting room (right). This is a wonderful space lit by sky-lights along the ceiling apex. A warm interior light is reflected from the honey-coloured oak floor. Behind the two beds at the end, the big window and double french doors look onto the garden and over Morningside to the Pentland Hills. |
