20 minutes south of Inverness lies Strathnairn - the valley the River Nairn. The road along it meanders between gentle forest covered hills and rocky outcrops from Fort Augustus on Loch Ness to the A9 (the main north-south road between Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness.)
In this quiet valley Christina and James Murray welcome guests for bed and breakfast (with optional dinner with advance warning). Part of Farr Mains was built by James's grandparents in the 1930's, and parts of the house date from 1850 when it was the Mill owner's cottage.
The atmosphere is peaceful, comfortable and civilized. The Murrays keep Llamas in the field just beyond the garden gate, and grow vegetables and keep bees. This is an ideal place of seclusion in true rural Scotland, and a practical central base from which to explore the Highlands, Loch Ness, and Whisky distilleries of Strathspey.

Right; Twin bedroom with private adjoining shower-room (shower, basin and wc), in the older part of the house (the older part is on the left in the photograph above).
Below; Single bedroom.
Below right; Double bedroom, which is next to the single bedroom. These two bedrooms and their private bathroom (bath, shower over, basin and wc) are all en suite. If you are travelling as a couple the single bedroom would be reserved as your dressing room.

Breakfast:

In the evening Christina will ask you what you would like for breakfast.
Breakfast is served in the dining room. The window (right) overlooks the garden and the hills of Strathnairn and Farr beyond.
Delicious honey from very local bees.
Often the fruit and vegetables have been grown in the garden.
Dinner is often available. Please give advance notice to enable Christina to arrange the menu.
Christina can also recommend a couple of good places to eat out on the south side of Loch Ness just few miles down the road from Farr Mains.

Tariff:

Twin Room: £30 per person per night, based on two people sharing and including breakfast.
Double Room: £35 per person per night, based on two people sharing and including breakfast.
Three people in the Double and adjacent Single Room: £30 per person per night, including breakfast.
Dinner (with advance notice please) £20.
Children welcome.
Well behaved pets are welcome.
No smoking in the bedrooms please.
