Tish and Geoffrey Alderson offer a warm welcome to their quiet private family home. Gilston Lodge, built in 1867 in the Scottish Baronial Style is secluded in a mature grounds with a water garden. (Tish and Geoffrey also have a cottage available for rental attached to the house and sleeping up to 4. See: Gilston Lodge Garden Cottage

Gilston Lodge is located eight miles south of Edinburgh's City Centre, directly on the local bus route and close to Edinburgh City bypass and airport. By car it's 20 minutes from Rosslyn Chapel and 10 minutes from Dalhousie Castle.

The bathroom is normally private and reserved for this twin bedroom, however in August it may be shared with:

  • Extra fold-out beds available for families.
  • Each bed room has tea and coffee making facilities.
  • No-smoking up-stairs or in the bedrooms please.

Gilston Lodge is traditionally furnished and is full of plants and pictures and altogether has great character and warmth.

There is a sitting room with a television for the use of guests and there is also a conservatory (right)
warm and full of sweet smelling plants.

The mature garden and water-garden are both mainly the creation of Tish, an inspired and keen gardener.

Conservatory

Breakfast:

Either Continental or a delicious fully cooked Scottish breakfast, with eggs or fish. Plus porridge, cereals, fruit toast, and preserves and fresh coffee or tea.

(For dinner there are very many local restaurants and pubs which Tish can advise on and give directions to.)

Open from the begining of April until the end of September.

Prices (in UK pounds sterling) per person per night based on two people sharing a room, and including breakfast:
£40 for double bedroom with private bathroom en suite.
£35 for double/twin bedrooms with adjacent private bathroom. In August the double/twin bedrooms may share the adjacent bathroom. Please ask Tish about this.
£40 for single occupancy of double/twin room.
