How to get to the Island of Mull

Unless you are a serious walker or cyclist, you will probably be bringing a car to Mull - there is very little public transport on the island.

However, bicycles can be rented on the island though, and you can easily get to Oban by train. (Glasgow-Oban; 4 hrs)

To Mull! Ferry

Caledonian MacBrayne run the car/passenger ferry to Mull and you can check times, etc, at www.calmac.co.uk, or email reservations@calmac.co.uk or phone 01631 566688.
Oban to Craignure, Mull; 40 mins.

Directions:

Map of west Scotland, Glasgow and Mull

From Glasgow, take the A82 to Crianlarich then Tyndrum, (the road on the shores of Loch Lomond is quite small, so there can be delays here). Then the A85 to Oban. (Oban to Glasgow 92 miles, allow 2-3 hours).

From Edinburgh or Perth. Aim for Stirling and take the A84 to Lochearnhead, then A85 via Crainlarich and Tyndrum to Oban.

From the North, Fort William take the A82 to the bridge across Loch Leven, then A828 to Oban. This is a very nice route along the western seaboard.

Alternatively, (coming from the North) take the beautiful but longer route out of Fort William, along Loch Eil (A830) via Glenfinnan and go through Moidart and Sunart to Strontian. Then take the A884 to Lochaline where a smaller CalMac ferry takes only 15 minutes to cross the Sound of Mull to Fishnish. Bonnie Prince Charlie landed in Moidart and raised the standard at Glenfinnan at the head of the Jacobite army signalling the start of the 1745 rebellion.
