Elizabeth and Herbert Goodenough welcome guests to stay in their summerhouse cabin in the garden of their 18th Century home, high in the hills in the Scottish Borders less than an hour south of Edinburgh.
The top photograph of the White Meldon, site of an iron age hill-fort, was taken from half way up the small secluded road that leads to the house. The surrounding landscape feels ancient and there's a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
The cabin has two bedrooms, a luxurious shower-room, and is about 30 paces from the conservatory where breakfast is served. None of the windows of the main house face the cabin so you have complete privacy.
One of the prettiest towns in the Borders, Peebles, is only 15 minutes away and has everything you need from good country-town shops, to pubs and places to eat. It also has a lively arts centre with theatre and cinema.
Elizabeth and Herbert welcome cyclists (there's a shed for bikes) and walkers and are happy to give advice to those travelling around by car about what to do and see. One of the best things to see - for all ages - is Dawyck Botanic Garden (6 miles) which has clear and entertaining guides and descriptions interspersed amongst an astonishing collection of mature trees from around the world.
