This stone-built traditional Scottish Borders house is surrounded by woodland and gardens above the A7 Carlisle to Edinburgh road (the "scenic route") about 4 miles south of Hawick (home of bargain cashmere and woolens).
The charming garden is great for adults and children, there's lots of wild -life (and frogs, in season!) in a series of small ponds, a barbeque and outside tables. If the weather isn't good, there's great big wood-burning stove in the cosy conservatory.
There's lots to do in the Borders of Scotland; visiting castles and medieval abbeys, fishing on rivers and hill lochs, and the area has an increasing reputation for fantastic walking and mountain biking (Innerleithen and Newcastleton 7 Stanes trails are 40 mins away). With 'Freedom of the Fairways' ticket you can play on 21 local golf courses. It's an easy day trip to explore Hadrian's Wall, and the Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre in the wilds of the hills and stone circles of Eskdalemuir is about an hour away.
