WEDDING CEREMONY

The ceremony is the most important part of your day and whether you would like a religious or civil marriage we have a wide choice of unique settings in which you can be married.

THE CHAPEL

The Chapel

The Chapel.

The Catholic chapel is situated in the 18th century wing and was created in 1829 following the Catholic Emancipation Act. It is a small intimate chapel which can seat up to 50 people but you will also feel comfortable with fewer than 10. There is also a harmonium which can be played. Any religious denomination can be married in the chapel.

Rooms in the house which are licensed for civil weddings:

Getting married in the garden:

You can choose anywhere in the grounds for your marriage ceremony but these have been some of the most popular venues. Suitable for religious or civil ceremonies:

CUPID'S GARDEN

A delightful enclosed garden at the side of the house where there is a white theme and a small stone statue of cupid with his bow.

THE MAZE

Traquair Maze

Traquair maze.

A unique and popular venue for those who want a ceremony with a difference. Be married in the centre of the maze or follow the example of one gallant individual who proposed to his fiancé here, having arranged for a firework display to take place at the very moment of her acceptance.

ARRANGING THE CEREMONY

We are happy to provide assistance in finding a local minister or priest. Civil ceremonies must be arranged through the local registry office in Peebles. Please note that overseas couples must register at least six weeks in advance and UK couples must register 4 weeks in advance.

If you are planning a religious ceremony outwith the chapel there are some Church of Scotland ministers who are willing to do this. Humanist ministers are also happy to marry anywhere whereas Catholic marriages must happen in the Catholic chapel.

Civil ceremonies must take place in registered premises. At Traquair this includes the High Drawing Room, Dining Room, Lower Drawing Room and the grounds.
