Wallace Shaw's apartment is on the 2nd floor (US third) reached by common stairs in this grand classical Georgian building of 1809 which used to be the Exchange, a meeting place for the merchants of the port of Leith.

The statue of poet Robbie Burns was put up by the Leith Burns Society in 1896.

Wallace worked for 40 years as a designer in the knitwear and fashion industry first in the Scottish Borders, then New York and Italy where he had a very much loved and popular B&B, Wallace's Arthouse, in Spoleto. (see the rave reviews in tripadvisor). Now he has now returned to Scotland and warmly welcomes guests to stay for bed and breakfast. Wallace's Arthouse is now in Edinburgh!

Leith is Edinburgh's up-and-coming area. Old whisky bond warehouses, merchants' premises, Georgian civic buildings and the Port and Water of Leith itself have attracted new technology and design companies and many of Edinburgh's finest restaurants and bars have set up here as well.

Within walking distance also is the new dockside Ocean Terminal shopping centre, and the Royal Yacht Britannia. Also nearby in Leith Docks is the Scottish Executive Offices, Victoria Quay.

The regular bus journey to Princes Street and the centre of Edinburgh takes about 15 minutes to cover the 1.8 miles up Leith Walk.
