With gardens on three sides, Number One was one of the first houses to be built in Tipperlinn Road in the 1880's, and shares with some of its neighbours a grand Graeco-Italianate style, Tuscan order entrance and the air of a house in the country.

It is the family home of Bolette and Jonathan Nason who warmly welcome guests to stay for bed and breakfast. There is a generous sense of space, the rooms are large and all have windows looking onto the garden in the front. There are more gardens at the back of the house, and guests are welcome to wander round them.

Buses take 10 to 15 minutes to get to Princes Street and the centre of Edinburgh, though in the evenings you might want stay and eat at one of the restaurants, or the well-known pub The Canny Man, in Morningside itself.

Bolette makes a cooked breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, etc., and there is tea, coffee, toast, orange juice, cereals and prunes and yoghurt.

£35 to £45.00 per person per night based on
