The biggest rod-caught Atlantic Salmon (on record) was caught on the Tay in 1922 by Miss G. Ballantine. It took many hours to land, and weighed 64 pounds and was over 4 foot 6 long (about 140cm).

However there are reports of fishing nets on the Tweed in the twenties taking fish of over 70 pounds. Netting has now ceased on the Tweed, and all fishing is by rod.
