Pond near the cottage

Garrique Cottage is 500 feet up on the slopes of the Gargunnock Hills with a stream and woodland on one side (left) and an open prospect with wonderful views across Flanders Moss to the mountains of the Highlands (above).

From the cottage you can set off on walks through woodland and over grassland and moors on ancient footpaths. There are old homesteads and Bronze age remains scattered round these hills, for people have lived here for thousands of years. On the path to the waterfall The Spout of Ballochleam an old map says: "Brass armour, spears and bones found here."

Scotland: Gargunnock Hills behind Garrique Cottage

The cottage is separated by trees from The Garrique where owners Fiona and Nander Robertson live and farm the surrounding land. This is a quiet, peaceful and wild place where deer visit and where you may catch a glimpse of peregrine falcons wheeling above.

Kippen is 4 miles by car, or a 2 mile walk along old paths. It has two pubs (and good food) a delicatessen, butcher, etc. Stirling is 20 minutes, and Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth are under an hour away. If you are looking for a comfortable self-catering cottage near Stirling in the middle of Scotland, yet remote and above it all, and surrounded by nature - this is the place to be.
