Built in the 1890's as a retreat for drawing and painting, the Studio is right on the edge of a steep slope above the River Findhorn. The photograph above doesn't really do justice to it's amazing position in this respect. From just in front of the wooden porch there's a path which zigs zags to the bottom - all completely natural with tall trees overhanging this most dramatic of Scottish rivers. The Studio is a couple of hundred yards from Glenferness House, secluded behind trees and rhododendrons. It is very basic, and although there is a separate compact shower room with small basin and wc, all your cooking is on a little stove in the wood-lined sitting room/bedroom, and washing up is accomplished in a portable bowl with water from the tap in the basin. The studio is ideal as an annex to the accommodation on the rest of the estate (West Stables or The Wooden House) where you would eat with your friends or family. But providing you can cope with limited cooking facilities it is unique and so romantic that you would be in bliss here - the sound of the river below, a hammock in front of the widow, a canopied double bed and nothing to disturb you... |
