Driving and Detours:
Driving time... a slow road.
Along this road you'll become familiar with the sign: "Single Track Road with Passing Places" Parts of this route entail stretches of such roads; they're in good condition, but speeds are necessarily slower. In fact they are fun, and relaxing to drive.... everyone observes the courtesy of pulling over and allowing approaching cars the right of way if one is nearer a "Passing Place" than they are. A sort of cameraderie arises (much smiling and waving).
Torridon
The National Parks of Beinn Eighe (pronounced ben ay) and Torridon are protected wilderness areas, and along the way you'll see examples of the torridon sub-species of Caledonian Pine (pinus sylvestris). Aultroy Visitor Centre has an exhibition of the ecology unique to the area (open May to Oct). Many interesting walks around about ranging from long and strenuous to quick and easy.

Strome Castle

One of the finest detours to be taken off this route is to the Island of Skye. I hope to add more about this later. Also the Applecross peninsular.

At Shiel Bridge is Shiel Lodge, traditional Highland sporting Lodge with many thousands of acres to wander in. Sleeps up to 12.
Tirindrish Converted steading with lots of space, sleeps up to 9.
